I’ve been re-introduced to his music after many years away. I played the Romantic Symphony in college orchestra and have been forever grateful to Howie Whitaker for bringing him to my attention.
I recently had the opportunity to do the компютри втора употребаSong of Democracy with our local symphony orchestra. This, too, reminds me of this gentleman’s huge impact on the 20th century American orchestral (and choral) literature. Quintessentially, both great examples of American and the 20th century orchestral repertoire.
The man knew how to do orchestration and use the different combinations for all the great orchestral effects. Vastly underrated. Sadly, the Delos website is not what it used to be and the Gerard Schwarz recordings are best found on e-Bay these days. I also found the 4-CD Mercury Living Presence recording which is very nice. However, I think the orchestra was miked much better than was the chorus (for the choral work).
Thanks again, Dr Whitaker!
