Mildly interesting article in Rolling Stone on the passing of an industry.
I do recall the days I used to wander all four floors of Tower Records in downtown Manhattan. I’d walk out with $100-200 worth of stuff which at the time was a bunch of jack in those days. However, my purchases were rarely mainstream and never influenced anyone’s pie charts nor bar graphs.
I’m less concerned about the fate of mainstream acts and more concerned about how symphonic orchestras will distribute their recordings in the future.
Wow, went on vacation to NJ last week and was cruising around listening to WXPN 88.5. I never used to listen to them when I grew up in NJ but at this point in time they have the great sound. I heard Eternal Flame and didn’t recognize the artist. I thought it might’ve been Rachel Yamagata who is way overdue for a new recording. I eventually discovered that it was Joan Wasser and her group.
Oh, and she apparently was Jeff Buckley’s GF before he passed away. I’m obviously not surprised to read about that!
Time to build my shopping list before another trip to Waterloo!!!
