Twitter, Flickr, Facebook Make Blogs Look So 2004.

Where have I been for the past few months? Twitter. But I doubt I’ll put a bunch of ads here to generate traffic. I might just take this down. After the hack-in a couple years back my SEO is shall we say, sub-optimal.

Five important security apps for Linux, Mac OS X and Windows – Ars Technica.

I saw this on ArsTechnica a while back and trusted that I could search it out when needed. For some reason, their re-design and search tool couldn’t bring it out so I needed to Google their web space to find this link/report.

Orchestral Music, iTunes, and the iPod

If you have any orchestral (art, classical, etc…) music recordings you’ve probably found that organizing them into your iTunes library and then into your iPod is frustrating due to sort issues and the fact that the CDDB is so craptastic with this genre of music.

Stan Brown’s article gives some good suggestions on how to tag your imported items for better sorting and searching.

Flowing Down the Sync

The last candy-bar phone I bought there was no method to sync data between it and my desktop computer. Any changes I made to my address book was forever stored on the phone. Why should I make changes only to lose them when the phone became unusable?

My current phone is the BlackBerry Pearl. I like it lots but trying to sync it to my Mac Address Book, and iCal has introduced me to Apple’s Sync Services. I thought at OS X 10.5 they should know how to sync properly. Sometimes it works fine. Some days I’m offered the chance to delete all my data. Other days the sync process just pukes and does nothing. There’s apparently no rhyme or reason to these varied behaviors.

I figured with the Jesus Phone they would have resolved the sync issues. But I guess the inability to Copy and Paste is there by design and its presence would bring up sync issues. Wha? You mean I pays $300 for this phone and it craps my syncs?!

Good information here regarding the complexities of syncing data across multiple platforms.

I guess I’ll give up expecting this process to work as advertised…

The Trolls Among Us

This NY Times article describes this growing subculture as having a fluid morality and a disdain for pretty much everyone else online. A fascinating glimpse into the darker side of the Internet.

Ten Immutable Laws of Security

Well, this is the first time I’ve ever seen this article on computer security. If I haven’t seen it, then maybe you haven’t either.

This goes along with other articles about the Internet I’ve read through the years. In the 90′s the Internet was new to many and folks were delighted to discover and use it. In the 00′s, security has now become a major issue. It’s an issue for businesses, governments, military, and personal users like us.
